Privacy Policy

Butterstick helps you decide what to watch. To do that we store your watchlist, learn which streaming services you use, and — if you turn them on — send you notifications when titles you've saved make news. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and you can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app at any time.

Account information. When you sign in, our authentication provider (Clerk) collects your email address and, if you use Sign in with Apple, the name and email Apple shares. You can use parts of Butterstick without an account; in that case this data is never collected.

Your activity in the app.Your saved watchlist, titles you've marked as seen, personal notes you attach to titles, snoozes, follows, and preferences (like which streaming services you use). Stored in Google Firebase (Firestore), associated with your account.

Push notification tokens.If you enable notifications, your device's push token is stored so we can deliver alerts about titles you've saved. Turning notifications off in Settings deletes these tokens.

Usage analytics.We use PostHog to understand how features are used — events like "article opened" or "title saved," associated with your account ID (not your email). This helps us decide what to build next.

Crash reports. If the app crashes, Sentry collects a technical report (stack trace, device model, OS version, account ID) so we can fix the bug. No message content or personal details are included.

Search and browsing queries. When you browse or search titles, those queries are sent to The Movie Database (TMDB) through our servers to fetch results. They are not stored with your identity.

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We do not show third-party advertising. We do not use your data to train AI models. We do not access your contacts, photos, location, or microphone.

Butterstick runs on a small set of service providers, each processing only what their role requires: Clerk (sign-in), Google Firebase (database and notifications infrastructure), PostHog (product analytics), Sentry (crash reporting), Vercel (web hosting), and TMDB (movie and TV metadata; this product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB).

Your data is kept while your account is active. You can delete your account from Settings → Delete account inside the app — this permanently removes your profile, watchlist, watch history, notes, preferences, and push tokens. News articles in our feed are automatically deleted after 30 days regardless.

Butterstick is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
